NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – (October 28, 2022) – Langley Federal Credit Union announces 30 Hampton Roads teachers who will each be awarded a $500 mini-grant to support 2022-23 classroom initiatives. Langley established the annual grant program in 2006 to assist local educators teaching elementary, middle, and high school students.

Selected projects include initiatives related to robot-programming, business management, math-readiness, emotional health, reading comprehension, eBook access, product modeling, and more.

Stacey Doggett, a teacher at Hunter B. Andrews Elementary School in Hampton, received a grant for Read Along Books which are used to strengthen literacy capabilities for students struggling in the area of reading.

“There is limited time and resources that can be put into meeting ‘below grade level’ students where they are, in order to get them caught up with their ‘on grade level’ peers.” said Doggett. “Having a section of the class designed to go beyond the lessons and provide additional opportunities to teach and target areas to improve, and also provide additional practice for these students is beyond beneficial. I am so happy and honored to be the recipient of a Langley Teacher Grant.”

“Langley is proud to support our communities’ most creative and dedicated educators who already give so much to ensure students are on the path to success,” said Liz Wolfson, Director of Foundation & Events. “Langley understands that education is the foundation of success and financial wellbeing, and the teacher mini-grant program helps ensure educators have the resources needed to enhance their classroom experience.”
